To everyone who loves our lighthouse.
Yesterday morning, on a dazzling August 22nd at the beach, the new airvane was installed! This means that the solar lighting equipment is back inside, weatherproof and charged up. Fiona blew our old airvane away - you will likely recall - and getting a new one proved very difficult. Labour shortage, material shortage and supply chain issues were the reasons, we were told. No surprise there! Seems to be the theme of 2023. Here you see the lighthouse at 7:30 am yesterday and then at about 11:00 am with the airvane in place. The multigenerational team who climbed up on top to do it are also shown. From the left Bill Morton (President of SPLHS), his grandson Jan, and his sons Shamus and Jesse. Let there be light again!

The Making Of…
The Board of Directors and membership of the SPHLS wish to express their thanks to Miller MacEwen of St. Peters Harbour for his craftsmanship and sharing of this splendid replica of the St. Peters Harbour Lighthouse. Miller has kindly lent this work of art to the Society so that we could enter it as the signature feature of the SPHLS float in recent Morell River Run Festival Parades. The photos below show the fabrication of the work in stages. Thank you, Miller, for this wonderful contribution and for allowing us to share these photos of ‘The Making Of…’ Hello to all you lighthouse lovers. Where does the time go? Can it really be that 2022 is drawing to a close? Even before Fiona happened, great changes were becoming evident in PEI through an influx of new permanent residents and you all know the changes that came from Fiona! It seems like the PEI government is quickly ramping up for increased protection of the shorelines, having seen the damage that can come so quickly and extensively. I just count us as lucky that "our" lighthouse fared so well. That is a tribute to those who built it and our legacy will be to preserve it going forward. Thank you for your part in that and best wishes for the new year from the SPLHS Board and volunteers. Best regards, Bill Morton - President
